What a nail biting weekend! Two Carlin drivers and a Fortec challenger who could all have realistically taken the championship at Donington. Going into the weekend Jazeman Jaafar had the upper hand and was leading the way however Jack Harvey had just won his Silverstone appeal and gained 14 valuable points back. Meanwhile Fortec’s Felix Serralles was lying in second position as the final three races of the 2012 season loomed.
On Saturday morning Jack dominated qualifying – taking pole position for both the first and third races of the weekend putting him in prime position for the title. Jazeman was also as speedy as ever and ready to challenge for the title, out qualifying Serralles.
Race one saw Jack take top honours from his pole position start; leading from start to finish the Carlin man took the advantage as Saturday came to a close. On Sunday it was Harry Tincknell who secured his fourth win of the season in the reverse race of the weekend while Pietro Fantin was looking particularly feisty and making some of the bravest overtaking manoeuvres in the entire field!
However everything was still to play for going into the final race of the season but delays
celebratingfrom earlier in the day meant that the race began as the light was beginning to fade. Leading from pole Harvey maintained his advantage looking after his tyres and keeping calm under the pressure. As darkness began to fall over Donington Park he crossed the finish line to clinch an emphatic win and a brilliant championship – our eighth British F3 title.
The entire team at Carlin would like to congratulate Jack on a great year on becoming the 2012 British Formula Three Champion. We’d also like to mention our deserving Vice Champion Jazeman who has also driven impeccably this year, while also not forgetting Tincknell, Fantin and Sainz who have all taken away some great results this season.
As the boys would say… ‘Bossed it!’
This leaves just one more round of the FIA European Formula Three Championship and the Formula Renault 3.5 Series to run before the 2012 season comes to a close – of course not forgetting the infamous Macau! Stay tuned to hear more about our Macau line-up soon…..
With GP2 and GP3 also finished for the year we’d like to say a huge congratulations the entire Carlin team on another strong season (very nearly complete) which has seen every team take a win. Well done!
