It was a brilliant showing for Carlin’s GP2, GP3 and British Formula Three teams this past weekend with all three taking incredible race wins – on the very same day!
Friday afternoon had already seen a podium for Carlos Sainz Jnr and provided a maiden GP2 pole for not only Max Chilton but the Carlin team.
As Saturday dawned Carlin had three races in two different countries with eleven Carlin drivers all vying for positions off the start line. The first race win on Saturday went to the British F3 team at Spa – Sainz lined up in second position and took the lead on the third lap. A great lead which he would hold for the rest of the race, dealing with the safety car restart well, and taking maximum points away as he begins to chase down the leaders of the championship.
Just a little while later it was down to pole-sitter Max Chilton to make it two out of two – which he brilliantly did. Making a great start, his tyre strategy worked perfectly giving him a well-deserved lights to flag victory ahead of the main championship contenders. And the Carlin GP2 team had their maiden win too in complete and utter style. Great job all round team!
Then to add an absolutely brilliant day the GP3 team and Antonio Felix da Costa went and grabbed a win too, making it three out of three for Carlin on Saturday. All of the hard work paying off for the GP3 team after their quick turnaround between the back-to-back races.
And when we thought it really couldn’t get any better Felix da Costa did it again on Sunday morning writing himself into the history books by becoming the first GP3 driver in history to win both races in one weekend. Alex Brundle took a great third place during the race too – bringing home more silverware for the team.
Absolutely huge congratulations to the entire GP2, GP3 and F3 teams on their sensational weekend. 100% deserved.
Now, it’s time to catch our breath just a little as the summer break approaches. Not that Carlin HQ will be shutting its doors for one minute however, but as most championships take a short summer break, we’ll have some time to reflect on how the season has gone so far and work hard to secure some wins in the second half of the season!
